VOLUNTEER AND SUPPORT

CRJW relies on volunteers to help with programming and office support. Roles and responsibilities vary based on need, with most support needed during the months of April to July in support of the Get On The Bus program.

  • Maintain communication and support families throughout the prison visitation process. This may consist of guiding families through the clearance paperwork, assisting with gathering other required documentation, providing updates about the Get On The Bus event.

  • Help gather donated items that support families participating in the Get On The Bus (GOTB) events with your respective regional coordinator. These donations may include travel bags, backpacks, stay connected kits, teddy bears, and/or supplies for event activities. The role entails reaching out to community partners, local businesses, schools, and/or individuals to secure needed items and ensure all items are organized and ready for distribution.

  • Meet us at the prison (in your nearest city). Inside the facility, help us run the visiting event activities alongside the GOTB staff and bus volunteers.

  • Provide emotional support for families during the bus trips and inside the event if needed (Licensed professionals are highly preferred).

  • Ride the bus with families traveling to and from the prison. On the day of the event, take roll call, monitor the safety and well-being of all families, and ensure families are comfortable throughout the trip. Collaborate with the local event day volunteers to facilitate the event activities inside the facility.

  • Assist in organizing fundraising activities for Get On The Bus (GOTB) events with your respective regional coordinator. Fundraising efforts such as contacting potential donors and supporting ongoing fundraising campaigns will contribute to funding for GOTB bus trips, event food, and other programming needs.
